Here are some examples of how wood from different trees looks.  Colors can vary within each species, and even from different parts of a single tree!

Please note: when ordering, you may attempt to request a specific wood, but it may be unavailable.  As a result, it is best to simply ask for either a "dark wood" (walnut) or a "light wood" (any of the others).
