In Pictures: How To Make A Spoon

From getting the wood to selling the finished piece, an 18-step process goes into the making of every spoon:

 

Step 1: Prune the tree / harvest the wood

Step 2: Mill the wood into planks

Step 3: Dry the planks (1 year of drying for every inch thick)

  • Step 4: trace
  • Step 5: cut out
  • Step 6: grind bowl
  • Step 7: grind bowl again
  • Step 8: shape spoon
  • Step 9: sand back
  • Step 10: Sand with 120 grit
  • Step 11: sand bowl with 120 grit
  • Step 12: sand bowl with 240 grit
  • Step 13: wet down, then let dry
  • Step 14: sand with 320 grit
  • Step 15: sand bowl with 320 grit
  • Step 16: oil and let dry
